How AI recommendations work
How ChatGPT and Gemini decide which business to name
When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, it either answers from what it learned in training or searches the web first and summarises the pages it finds. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity all search for local and commercial questions, so the pages that rank for those searches, and the reviews and directories they cite, decide who gets named.
That makes AI visibility measurable in the same way as Google rankings: you ask the questions your customers ask, many times and from the places they ask from, and count how often each business is named. Answers vary between runs, so a single test in your own ChatGPT account says little.
