The best keywords for electricians are the searches people make when they're ready to hire: "electrician near me", "emergency electrician", and a service plus a town, such as "EV charger installation Austin". Below are 53 electrician keywords with their monthly Google searches in the US, what advertisers pay per click, and the page on your website that should target each one.

The numbers are Google Ads data for the United States, pulled through DataForSEO on October 12, 2026. Google counts close variants together, so "electrician", "electrician near me" and "electricians near me" all show 368,000. The figures are national, and your town gets a small share of them, so use them to compare keywords with each other. They aren't a traffic forecast. The cost per click is the average price advertisers paid for a click on Google Ads, which shows how much a lead from that search is worth to electricians who advertise.

1. "Near me" and emergency searches

These searches have the most urgency. Someone with a dead circuit or a burning smell wants a phone number now, which is why advertisers pay $38 to $47 for a click on the emergency terms. Google picks local results mainly by relevance, distance and how well known a business is, so you don't need to write "near me" on your pages. Keep your Business Profile complete, list your emergency hours there, and give emergency work its own page with a tap-to-call number at the top and the towns you cover. More in our guide to ranking for near me searches.

2. Searches for the kind of electrician

Residential, commercial and licensed searches tell you what the customer needs before they click. If you work for both homeowners and businesses, give each its own page, since a homeowner and a facility manager look for different things. "Licensed" tells you the searcher cares about qualifications, so show your license number and insurance on the page.

3. Panel and breaker upgrades

Panel work is one of the bigger residential jobs, and the searches say exactly what the customer wants. One page can cover upgrades, replacements and sub panels. The searches with "cost" in them want a price, so put a price range, or what decides the price, on the same page.

4. EV charger installation

People search for chargers by brand and by level, so name the chargers you install and say if you handle the permit and check the panel, since both are part of the job. "EV charger installation cost" has about a quarter of the searches of the service itself, so a price range belongs on this page too.

5. Generator installation

Whole house and standby generators are big tickets, and the brand search "generac generator installation" alone has 4,400 searches a month. If you install a particular brand, put it in the page title and on the page.

6. Rewiring and old wiring

Fewer searches, but every job is large. People who search for knob and tube replacement often just bought an older house. A page that explains how a rewire works, how long it takes and what it costs answers all four searches.

7. Lighting, fans and outlets

Smaller jobs with steady demand. "Ceiling fan installation cost" is searched almost as often as the service itself (12,100 against 14,800 a month), so show what a typical install costs. Lighting and fans can share a page; outlets and hot tub wiring work better on their own.

8. Inspections and safety

Home buyers, sellers and landlords search for inspections, and they often come back for the repairs the inspection finds. Smoke detector installation has 12,100 searches a month and fits on the same page.

9. Price searches

People compare prices before they call. A pricing page or FAQ that explains how you charge, such as a call-out fee, an hourly rate or fixed prices for common jobs, answers these searches and saves you calls from people who expect a different price.

10. Problem searches

People search for the symptom before they search for an electrician. A short help article that lists the safe checks, such as resetting the breaker, and says when to call a professional can rank for these and send readers to your repair page. Keep it to safe steps and leave out repairs that need a licensed electrician.

Keywords to skip

Some searches are big but bring the wrong visitors. The low cost per click on three of them shows that few advertisers find buyers there.

Job searches such as "electrician salary" or "how to become an electrician" bring students and apprentices, not customers. Leave them out unless you're hiring.

How to use these keywords on your website

Give each main service its own page, and put its keyword in the page title and the main heading, for example "EV Charger Installation in Austin | Bright Spark Electric". Use the other keywords from the same group in subheadings and in the text where they read naturally. One page per group above is a good start.

Add a page for each town you serve. For a search like "emergency electrician Round Rock", a page about Round Rock does better than a homepage that lists 20 towns in the footer. Give each town page something only that town has: jobs you did there, a review from a customer there, the permit office you deal with. Google's spam policies call pages for many cities that funnel visitors to one place "doorway abuse", so every town page needs its own reason to exist.

Match your Google Business Profile to the list: choose Electrician as the primary category and add each service. For the full process, including reviews and links, read how to do local SEO for electricians.

Find the keywords for your own town

National numbers tell you which services people search for. To see what people search in your area:

  1. Open Google Keyword Planner, which is free inside a Google Ads account, enter your services and set the location to your city or county.
  2. Once your site gets visitors, check the Performance report in Google Search Console for the searches you already show up for.
  3. Type "electrician" and the name of your town into Google and note the suggestions and the "People also ask" questions.

Our guide to keyword research for local SEO walks through each step.

Turn the list into pages

Eight services in 15 towns are 120 possible pages, one for each service in each town. Building them one by one in WordPress takes days. LPagery, the WordPress plugin we make, creates them from one template page and a spreadsheet with a row per page, and the free version creates up to 100 pages per run. Only create pages for towns you really serve, and give each one its own details as described above. Our tutorial on location pages for a plumbing business shows the same setup for another trade.

FAQ

What are the best SEO keywords for electricians?

The searches that show someone wants to hire in your area: "electrician near me", "emergency electrician", "residential electrician" or "commercial electrician", and your main services plus your town, such as "electrical panel upgrade" or "EV charger installation". In the US, "electrician near me" alone has 368,000 searches a month.

Should I put "near me" on my pages?

You don't need to. Google already uses the searcher's location for "near me" searches. Write the names of the towns you serve on your pages instead, and keep your Business Profile complete.

How many keywords should one page target?

One main keyword and its close variants. "Electrical panel upgrade", "electrical panel replacement" and "breaker box replacement" fit on one page. "EV charger installation" needs its own.
